Q. Why can’t my students see the reading list?
A. Your reading list must always be 'Published' in Leganto, as opposed to DRAFT. After you have added content to your reading list, click on the PUBLISH link at the top of your reading list. If a student is a member of your Moodle site they should be able to view the reading list. Occasionally people will get an error message 'Illegal Institution'. When this happens, people need to clear their cache on their browser, quit the application and log in again.
Q. Why can't my student access the reading list, even though they are registered?
A. Students need to access the main link prior to using the weekly links. Once they have accessed that there should be no problem with the weekly links.
Q. Can I add/edit/delete items in the list at any time even after it is published?
A. Yes, there is no problem with updating, editing or changing your list after it is published.
Q. Can I allow other people to edit my reading list?
A. Yes, you may add them as a collaborator. Open your reading list and click on the ellipsis at the top of your screen. Select ‘manage collaborators’ and follow the instructions.
Q. Can you add a link to a website on the reading list?
A. Yes, it is possible to do so.
Q. Can you copy over a reading list from a different Moodle page?
A. Yes, it is possible to do so.
Q. My course requires students being able to access printed items within the Library collections. How can they do this?
A. Sometimes the resources your students need are only available in print. MIC Reading Lists provide real-time information on the availability of items in the Library as well as allowing students to request items directly from the reading list. The items are then retrieved by library staff and the student notified that it is available for collection or in the case of an item being on loan to another student, they will be on a waiting list to receive the item.
Q. Can I add a book not held by the Library to my reading list?
A. Yes, Library staff can purchase stock based on your reading list. The number of copies is often determined based on whether an item is tagged as either essential reading or recommended reading. Please allow three weeks for us to order book stock from our approved suppliers.
Q. What is 'My Collection?'
A. 'My Collection' is your own personal Leganto library. You can use this space to save interesting resources that you would like to access later. These resources can include a book, a journal article, a YouTube video, a webpage, etc.
Q. I have existing scans but they are poor quality, can I still share these with my students?
A. Please share the details of these citations with the library so that we can review them and recreate them if necessary. We need to ensure materials are machine-readable to support accessibility requirements. We also need to ensure the College is complying with copyright legislation and licensing restrictions.
